Needed: High Interest Reading Material

We are now funded to receive high interest periodicals for my third grade students. I am very grateful for the donors who are supporting my project and I am excited to see my students enjoy reading. Teaching opportunities like this are critical in developing a love for reading and life long learners.
Not only will this encourage reading, but the periodicals will also pave an avenue to teach students about reading fiction and non fiction text. Each issue is packed with fiction and nonfiction text that foster critical learning skills like literary elements, characteristics of non fiction, lessons on poetry, analyzing debate issues, fascinating current events, etc.

This classroom project was brought to life by Marks Family Foundation and one other donor.

This magazine provides digital access for students and teachers. Each passage has numerous activities for students to engage in reading. Many of these activities allow the opportunity for students to develop their writing skills through responding to literature activities. Storyworks also allows students the opportunity to engage in higher level learning activities such as synthesizing, analyzing, evaluating, etc. with text specific to each reader's instructional level. , The lessons and text can be differentiated to cater learning to individual student needs by providing articles, stories, plays, debates, etc. at varying reading levels. Each subscription features a variety of genres always including fiction, non-fiction, paired texts, debates, plays, and vocabulary building activities. Many of the articles in the magazine have extension activities, links to view videos news clips, etc. to encourage independent learning. Additionally, each activity aligns with our English/Language Arts standards.
