I am preparing for a return to a face-to-face learning environment in September. I would like to ensure that my classroom safely respects social distancing without losing the collaborative and engaging environment that my students know and love. I know it will be difficult to share some of the materials that I already have in my classroom, especially during math and recess. It is my goal to create individual toolkits in order to maintain hands-on math instruction and creative, collaborative play during recess while keeping the spread of germs to a minimal amount. These toolkits will allow my students to use classroom materials safely and enjoy a socially distant recess. Each student will have access to their own set of manipulatives to help provide further understanding during math instruction and use as an aid to complete independent work. In the event that we are unable to return to a face-to-face classroom, the toolkits will be available to take home and use as an aid during remote learning. Each student will also have access to creative tools during recess that will allow them to play together while maintaining safety and distance. I hope to provide these toolkits in an effort to continue to provide an engaging and positive learning environment during this difficult and unprecedented time.
