The pandemic has presented great challenges for my students with special needs. My students struggle with behavioral, academic, social, and emotional issues. Many are burdened with home stressors that make learning and basic social skills difficult for them. As of now we are slated to return to school in person full time. Many of these items will help keep our students safe, such as the air purifier and the gloves. Some, such as the activity books, will enrich their learning while we keep our distance. The journals are a great tool for students to express themselves as they navigate a learning environment that will look different to that which they are accustomed. In the case that we move to virtual learning, we can still utilize these items, as we would be teaching virtually from the school building and will still require many of the safety items. We will also continue to use the activity books as a group via Zoom. We really appreciate the help of donors to help transition and combat the challenges of learning with special needs during a pandemic.
