I am hoping to build my library of social-emotional resources for the children I work with. I am looking to add additional social-emotional games, books, and activities to use in small counseling groups to support children who are learning to develop their social skills, coping skills, self-esteem, and self-regulation skills. I try to vary the activities we do during sessions so the kids have fun while learning these important skills! Children, particularly at the elementary level, tend to learn best through play. Play therapy activities increase children's comfort in expressing their feelings and decrease their fear of making mistakes. I allow children who are working with me to use fidgets while talking to me about difficult feelings and situations to make it easier for them to remain calm. I find them helpful when I am helping children who are upset to de-escalate if they have something to fidget or play with.
