Funded Sep 23, 2022With the help of kindness and compassion from you - friends, family, and even strangers - we were able to collectively raise OVER $1,000 for my students to receive class sets of new books. Thank you everyone - for the social media shares, donations, and continuous encouragement. My heart is so incredibly full. ♥️”

Funded Aug 24, 2020I am writing once again to personally thank you for your contribution and continued support for my lovely ninth and eleventh grade students, as well as provide some insight into how your support has impacted the learning of my students - especially during such a challenging year. My students received our classroom materials at the beginning of the school year in September; however, my students have only recently been able to see my classroom in-person, as they have been learning remotely for the initial few months of school. As a first year teacher, developing a space that fosters a warm environment was crucial to building positive relationships. As a first year teacher in the middle of a global pandemic, developing a classroom space where my students can feel ~ as safe as physically possible ~ was the next best thing. Aware that many of my students had conflicting feelings about returning to in-person learning, where they simultaneously felt excited to see their friends and teachers, yet also extremely anxious to potentially be exposed to Covid-19; I know that creating an inviting, emotionally safe space is crucial.
When I was finally able to "meet" my students in-person for the first time, I was met with young adults who expressed overwhelming gratitude walking into a classroom that, in the words of one of my eleventh graders, Elle, claimed that the aesthetic of my classroom "match[ed] the warm vibe that [I] give off as a teacher." This particular comment meant the world to me, as it has been a goal of mine to ensure that my students feel secure in my classroom, even if the time that they're currently able to spend with me in-person is limited.
For the time being, students are not able to use many of the materials I received in my packages, including pens, pencils, markers, easel boards, and other materials due to risk of viral contact transmission; however, I am beyond excited to have these materials for my students to use as soon as the threat of Covid-19 is minimized. Many of my students are various types of artists and look forward to being able to work collaboratively with their classmates on visual projects. One project, for example, that I had originally planned to employ using these materials with my eleventh graders, is a visual presentation of different Native American myths. While my students had to work collaboratively on a shared PowerPoint, rather than on paper, I am hopeful that I will be able to implement this project as originally planned at the start of next year.
While the past few months have been anything short of crazy, I again, must express how thankful I (and my students are) to have the continuous support of individuals such as yourself. You have helped to provide tangible materials for my students, while simultaneously giving them an even greater gift -- hope; hope that life will eventually return to some degree of normalcy; hope that they can eventually enter school for in-person learning and share work and materials with one another without the fear of transferring illness. For that and more, I am eternally grateful to you.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Brouillette
