These books will help my students accept each other and other cultures they could be exposed to in their life. These books will help them accept themselves as different and unique. Research shows that exposure to books and concepts helps build language and vocabulary even before students can read the books themselves. I want to create a culture of diversity and acceptance. I want to focus on self-acceptance for most of my students this is a hard concept. Being in a school that is mostly white typically developing students' books with different colors, characters, and abilities would help them tremendously. They need the diverse characters to help them see themselves in the story and give them the confidence to work harder and celebrate their victories.
