  • Organize and Equip Classroom Learning Centers!

    Funded Aug 6, 2022

Thank you so much for your contribution to my amazing class! I cannot wait to share the resources we have raised with them. I also can’t wait to share their growth with you. Community and the support it brings truly means everything.

You are all so special to me!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Chloe

  • Classroom Necessities/Toys for My Special Day Class!

    Funded Aug 13, 2021

Thank you so much for your contribution to our class! My students love all that we have received and we use them daily!

Every morning, my class has choice time. For the first 20 minutes of our day, students play with the toys you donated--our cash register, play food, play animals, etc. Their favorite thing to do is create disgusting plates of food to give the teachers (camouflaged, of course). Laughing then ensues :)

School is very hard for many of my students, and creating a positive space first thing is critical. Your support has helped to make the first part of our day fun and happy, which then trickles into the rest of our day.

We appreciate your kindness and support.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Chloe

  • Support My Deaf Student with Communication

    Funded Oct 31, 2020

From the bottom of my heart, thank you for your kindness and support. With the iPad you donated, I have been able to support my student in learning to communicate with her hearing friends and participate within her class community in new ways.

When my student transitioned from a deaf/hard of hearing program to my class with peers who hear and do not know ASL in 5th grade, she had limited ASL and did not use her communication device. This meant my student would have limited ways of communicating with her peers. I also had no way of teaching/modeling how to use a communication device. With your donation, I have been able to model how to greet others, ask questions, participate in daily classroom communication and more. That also means her peers are able to listen to her contributions and respond to her ideas. This has opened up her ways of contributing academically, but also socially.

My student will soon be transitioning to Middle School where it is unclear that her teachers will know ASL and she will have to navigate a new community. Because we have practiced together and I have been able to model how to use her communication device, I feel confident that my student will be able to speak up for herself and ask for what she needs from her hearing peers and teachers.

And quite simply but also perhaps most profoundly, we have been able to normalize a new way of communicating in my class. My students see their peer and their teacher using a device to communicate. They have learned patience with my student as she crafts sentences and see this new way of communicating a norm. Your donation has supported students beyond my one student who I initially felt was the only one who would benefit.

    THANK YOU SO MUCH!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Chloe

My students, particularly my student who is deaf, are learning how to use a communication device to communicate their needs and wants as well as connect with their peers. I will use this device to teach my student how to operate a communication device once a particular communication app is installed. My deaf student has not received support in learning how to use her device, and this has become even more impossible at home. With a new device, I will be able to teach my student how to use her own talkie, and this will normalize this new form of communication with my other students. This will also support my students with autism who are nonverbal. When we go back to school, I plan on making the device available to my other nonverbal students.
