Students in my classroom have a passion for reading! Each student has a different interest in book series. To become confident readers, students need to be able to practice their reading at home. I would love to provide students with opportunities to earn books that they get to keep at home and start creating libraries. This project will help students create a bigger passion for reading. In second grade, students are provided with books at the school library and our classroom library, but are not allowed to take them home. I want my students to have high interest books that they love to keep at home. I am using a new classroom management system this year that involves tickets. Students earn tickets daily for positive behavior in the classroom. Throughout the day, students will have the opportunity to place their tickets in a bucket. At the end of each week, we discuss great behaviors I saw and students make a behavior goal for the next week. After our discussion, I pull tickets with student names. Students earn books for positive behavior. Not all of my students need books, but some do and that's why I want to give them out. Giving books to students for positive behavior intensifies their learning at home. This project will provide students will books of their own that they can read and share with their families.
