These materials would mean the world to my students, knowing that there are people out there who are willing to help provide them with the materials they need to succeed in the classroom is heartwarming. My students are very bright and intelligent children who deserve to have the same opportunity as most suburban schools. Supplying them with the materials needed puts them a step forward in their growth and success. I teach at a Title I School in the Detroit Public Schools Community District, where over 90% of my students come from a low-income background. As a result of the hardships they go through and handle in their personal lives it can have a big impact on how they approach school. Providing them with the materials needed to help them succeed will show them that we believe they can do it, and therefore they will start to believe it as well. Having a support system who believes in them can change these children's lives. As of right now my district is giving the option for both face-to-face learning and virtual learning. Whatever this year looks like, each student will receive a container of school supplies just for them. Whether that be in the classroom or delivering them to their homes. With the resources requested my students will be able to have their own supplies, which would help stop the spread of germs and potential illness in the classroom. Giving the students the materials they need to continue practicing their writing, critical thinking, and to keep them motivated and excited about the work we will be doing in my class. Having the students use actual paper and pencils to brainstorm and plan out papers/essays and to also work on their handwriting and spelling skills both in the classroom and at home.
