Outdoor Classroom
Funded Jul 26, 2022The students working on building the outdoor classroom have been using the trowels and watering cans daily for planting and watering. Now that winter has set in we will be working indoors to plan our planting in the spring the thermometers will be used in the spring to measure the temperature of the soil to prepare for planting.
They were excited about the trowels and some of our students needed some teaching on how to dig and use a trowels. One student said they had never dug a hole before. It warmed our hearts to see the students just enjoying this connection with the soil. We are so thankful for the donations and cannot wait until spring!”

Sun Sail
Funded Jul 30, 2022Our sail will be used to cover our outdoor classroom. The students spent 3 months moving logs and mulch to the outdoor learning area.. There are 30 students who have participated in this work along with Art /Science classes. The area has no shade and the sail will be the shade for our classroom. The kids who worked in the heat all late summer and early fall are looking forward to the shade as they use the space for learning.
As students saw the sail unfolded they were really happy the color was, "natural like the Earth." We are excited to set this up in the spring. They recognized that the sail will look natural and that is what the children hoped for, a natural environment for learning.
Next, our maintenance people will put the clips into the bricks, also our students will need to dig holes for the 2 posts. We will do some math to determine the needed pitch of the sail and the tension.”
