This school year will be my first official year with my own classroom and I have the privilege to teach 190 wonderful 7th graders. Last year was a beast for my students. They navigated distance learning, hybrid and traditional schooling with many obstacles. I want this year to be consistent and fluid from the start. I want my students to have a classroom community that feels like a home away from home, where they can grow and learn. A large piece of this will be having a library. A place they can sit and read. a place to enrich their learning and explore topics that interest them. For this, I need a variety of books so that the students have options. Literature is a key component of students' academic growth. With these new books, my students will be able to choose what they read and that that will allow them to read independently and increase their engagement. The best way to increase reading ability is to read more, and these books will continue to help my students grow stronger in reading. My students already have shown an astonishing interest in independent reading, and this project will only help enrich their experiences with the printed word.
