Fourkiller's Book Corner
Funded Nov 14, 2022In our classroom, reading goes beyond simply following the story—it's about developing critical thinking, empathy, and a deeper understanding of the world. The new texts we've introduced are carefully chosen to build these skills through a variety of themes, perspectives, and genres. For example, we emphasize understanding character motivations, exploring cultural contexts, and identifying themes that resonate with real-world issues. Through structured discussions and guided analysis, students learn to question and interpret, forming their own insights rather than just absorbing information. These skills are crucial as they prepare students to think analytically and empathetically about literature and the world around them. Reading in our classroom is an interactive, shared experience that combines individual reflection with group discussion. We often read aloud together, stopping to ask questions, make predictions, and discuss key points in the text. This approach fosters a community of learning, where students feel comfortable sharing their thoughts and challenging one another's ideas. In small groups or pairs, students analyze passages, delve into character development, and connect the stories to their own experiences, making reading feel relevant and meaningful. Technology also plays a role; for instance, digital tools allow students to annotate texts, track their thoughts, and participate in online discussion boards, which encourages engagement and accountability. Certain students have shown a particular enthusiasm for the new books. One student, for example, has been captivated by stories that reflect her own culture, finding a sense of identity and pride in seeing characters who resemble her. Another student, typically reserved, has begun speaking up more in discussions, drawn in by the complex characters and moral dilemmas in some of our novels. The varied perspectives in these books help students see themselves and others in new lights, making reading both a personal and shared journey that they eagerly participate in.”

Funded Feb 8, 2022The integration of technology in our classrooms is transforming the way students learn by making education more engaging, accessible, and interactive. Tools like interactive whiteboards, tablets, and online learning platforms allow students to dive into subjects with hands-on experiences and multimedia content that make lessons more dynamic. Students who might struggle with traditional lecture-based approaches often find that technology helps them learn in ways that better suit their individual needs.
For example, our math and reading applications offer adaptive feedback, helping each student progress at their own pace and providing personalized instruction that keeps them motivated and confident. The newest product we've introduced has sparked particular excitement among students because it incorporates virtual and augmented reality features, allowing them to explore concepts they previously only read about. Whether it's taking a virtual tour of ancient civilizations in a history class or exploring the anatomy of a cell in science, students are thrilled to learn in ways that feel immersive and engaging. This interactive technology has brought an element of discovery and play to learning that keeps students curious and eager for each new lesson. It's especially effective in supporting collaborative learning, as students can explore these tools in small groups and discuss what they're seeing and learning together. Some students, in particular, have warmed to this new technology remarkably well.
Our students who are typically more hands-on learners or those who enjoy creative projects have really thrived with the interactive features. For instance, a student with a strong interest in science has been able to explore 3D models and conduct virtual experiments, enhancing his understanding and interest in biology. Another student who usually struggles with engagement has found renewed enthusiasm through the interactive activities, showing more focus and asking insightful questions during class. This technology is making learning feel accessible and fun for a wide range of learners, allowing them to see the practical applications of what they're studying in a way that resonates with them personally.”

Supplies for Success!
Funded Aug 10, 2023I cannot begin to describe how much your donation meant to myself and my students. I teach in a rural area with many students who face poverty on a daily basis. It's hard for myself as an educator to provide everything monetarily to my classroom.
Donors like you make our classrooms continue to be successful. I will forever be thankful for the impact you have made. All of the supplies purchased have gone directly to my students and have been used every day. The headphones especially have been a huge hit for my kids!
Thank you!”

Funded Jan 4, 2021This project has helped so much with navigating our school year during a pandemic. With so many students now at different levels from loosing the last bit of their year last year, and then this year having to be in and out of the buildings, it has made it difficult to teach. With the headphones, I have been able to personalize each students learning goals and where they are currently at. I have been able to meet their needs by customizing their lessons and they use the headphones to work while not disturbing each other in class.
The students have loved that they could use the headphones while working, whether it's listening to a snippet of me teaching, listening to music while they work, or watching assigned videos. It allows them the peace to work at their own pace. Most of my students haven't ever owned headphones, so for them to have access to the possibility was a huge gesture. And one we are so thankful for!”

Funded Oct 22, 2020We want to thank you so much for your support of our classroom. Reading is so important and something I do with my students every single day in our class. For our 5th grade leadership class, most of my students come from low income families and have not had many opportunities to read and explore books except within schools. Your donation purchased new books that the students had never read before. They introduced poetry, creative writing styles and being able to bridge the gap between books and their every day experiences.
For our classroom, we read for the first 30 minutes of every day. Then students will discuss what we have read and make connections. At the end of each book we write a reflection on what we learned through the text and how we can use the themes in the book in our life.
Students especially enjoyed the Love that Dog book as it was quirky, funny and written in an interesting way, through poetry. We are forever thankful for your gift to our class!”
