  • Creating Excitement for Reading

    Funded Aug 14, 2022

Excitement and Enthusiasm~ that is what this project has helped to create in my classroom. The items purchased by you have piqued my students' interests in the topics we study and keeps them highly engaged in our reading units.

The magnetic shelves are sensational! The kids are constantly looking to see what new books I display that connect to our reading units. I feel that I am constantly putting new books up because my students want to borrow them ALL THE TIME! Any teacher will tell you that there is no joy greater than when the kids are begging to borrow books.

During our study of the Middle Ages my students were disappointed when each day's lesson ended. We had great discussions reading about the Battle of Hastings and William the Conqueror. When we learned about King Henry II of England, students selected their choice of crown style and used the gem stickers to "bling" it out. This activity surpassed my expectations. I had expected this to last for a day, but my class would insist on wearing their crowns everyday for the rest of the unit...including when they took their test. This will be an activity I plan to re-create in future years.

This project has 101% achieved my hopes to build anticipation for learning. The kids are so excited to see what we will learn more about next!!”

  • “Automatically” More Learning Time!

    Funded Aug 8, 2022

Having an automatic stapler in my classroom has been a complete gamechanger! As a teacher of young children, I try to encourage independence in every possible opportunity.

Allowing students to staple papers using a traditional stapler can often lead to chaotic situations. Some students struggle to push hard enough, while other kids slam the stapler together in an attempt for it to work. This often leads to a broken and/or jammed stapler (which is an important tool for a classroom teacher!). When classroom supplies are broken or not functioning properly, it requires time for the teacher to remedy the situation. Additionally, students become frustrated and disappointed. Because of these reasons, I have always been controlling over allowing others to use my classroom stapler.....until NOW!

The automatic stapler that was donated to our classroom is located in a convenient location for student use. When I first showed this tool to the students they were more excited than you would think. According to one of my students "Our class is in the future now", which in kid-speak could be meant as- This is a really cool thing! I took the time to show my students how the stapler works and everyone practiced using it several times to feel comfortable doing it independently.

Having an automatic stapler saves me so much time in our day and has made some kids more responsible with their work. I no longer have to take instructional time to staple pages or packets. Students line up quickly to make their own packets. When completing multipage writing assignments, students keep track of all their pages because they want to be able to staple them all together. This stapler has truly made a significant impact in our classroom.”

  • A Year of Diversity: Books for Each Heritage Month!

    Funded Oct 21, 2021

THANK YOU! THANK YOU! I am so appreciative of your generosity. Because of you my students have the opportunity to read multicultural books each month. Each month when I bring out the new books their eyes light up and they practically run to the new display area of our classroom. It has been a joy seeing the children eager to read about different cultures, and bring new ideas they learned into our classroom discussions.

In November we discussed Native American Culture and made connections to the Native Tribes here in Wisconsin. Students loved the story "Grandmother's Dreamcatcher" by Becky Ray McCain. As soon as it was returned to the shelf it was picked up by someone else.

This month is African American Heritage Month. Your donation has helped students learn about ways that diversity has grown over time. Students read fiction and nonfiction texts discussing serious topics; from important contributions made to society by African Americans during times of segregation, to the peaceful protests preached by Martin Luther King Jr. These books helped take these big ideas and put them into a format that children can easily understand and connect to.

This little book collection has already done so much for my students! Thank you for your time, your generosity, and for helping make a difference in these childrens' lives.”

  • Help My Students Experience Reading "Where the Red Fern Grows"!

    Funded Aug 11, 2020

Thank you everyone for your generosity in helping my students experience reading Where the Red Fern Grows. Your generosity has made a huge impact in my classroom during the Covid-19 pandemic. Every student was able to have their own copy of this novel to use everyday when I read aloud to them.

Where the Red Fern Grows is a story that entices my students to read because of the content presented. My students' personal experiences of living on farms, hunting, trapping, and exploring the woods help them to make strong connections to the characters and events of this novel. I love watching my class develop a love of the characters and see their emotions become entangled with this amazing piece of literature. For many, this is the first time a story has touched their heart in such a way.

Because of your donation, my class was able to continue reading our novel during times of virtual learning. Thank you!”

  • A Safe Start to the New School Year

    Funded Aug 11, 2020

With your help I have been able to organize and disperse individual sets of learning materials to each student. This has been so wonderful for hands-on learning. Each student has their own pencil pouch where they keep their weekly word study cards and materials. Having their own storage allows them to easily move throughout the room for different activities. I also created Math Toolboxes using the photo boxes that were purchased with your donation. This has been such a game changer in my math instruction, I plan to utilize this post-covid. Students have all the manipulatives and resources handy for their learning needs. The math toolboxes contain items such as counting cubes, multiplication strategy cards, and multiplication charts. I especially like this resource since it allows me to provide each student with items they may specifically need to assist in their mathematical understanding.

Our Touchless Hand Sanitizer dispenser has made it so convenient for my students to keep their hands germs free. Plus, they LOVE the scent of the tea tree sanitizer. Having such a nice smell has definitely increased student usage! Thank you for keeping us safe and keeping us learning!!”

Hands on activities is essential for student learning. This school year will be a challenge to safely provide students with opportunities to use manipulatives, social distance, and keep their hands sanitized. Pencil pouches and small containers will allow every student in my classroom to have their own math manipulative kit to use during math lessons. Additionally, students will utilize these materials to safely contain their vocabulary and word study cards. Both the pouches and containers can easily be used at school or home as we transition between face-to-face and virtual learning.
