Through remote learning I saw how much my students are able to utilize technology. I was impressed with what they were able to create and figure out on their own. I want to continue this technology assisted learning through the use of iPads in the classroom to further excite, challenge, and expand these abilities. Using the iPads will be another privilege of technology available in our classroom, along with laptops and a smart board! Please help us in our efforts to further the development in the computer science disciplines in the classroom. I have recently joined a team of teachers in a CS (Computer Science) for All Program, which is looking to better prepare our students for the future by introducing computer science standards and understanding digital literacy. I am looking to use the iPads to allow students to experience numerous computer science platforms. As an example, the iPads will be used in conjunction with a customizable microcontroller, the Makey Makey, to introduce students to the fundamentals of computing and coding, the building blocks of computer science. In addition, the iPads would be used in math and reading centers. We could use applications like Blockly, where students can program robots, scholastic literacy pro, prodigy, and many more! The camera function is great for students to quickly take a picture or video of their work and share it in a variety of fun ways, like using Flip Grid. Flip Grid would also allow for a discussion to occur as students watch and comment on other student’s videos. Apple products are very user friendly, which would allow for time on the devices to be meaningfully used for learning applications. I appreciate you taking the time to read my request and look forward to introducing this new functionality to my students!
