Journaling has become an important part of my preschool classroom. I will provide binders with paper inside for each student to work with at home (due to remote learning). Some pages will have questions for students to think about whereas other pages will be left blank. Students will write and draw in them when responding to various prompts and reflecting on activities. To begin the school year, we will study all about ourselves. Students will draw and write about how they look, things they do, what they like and so much more. Writing and drawing allows children to express how they are feeling in any particular moment. Students can draw and write about specific emotions, use various colors to depict various feelings or simply scribble on paper to release a certain energy. Having a journal accessible at home can support their emotional development. Journals at home will also help students (and their families) keep much of their paperwork together in one place and stay organized.
