Socialization Through Play
Funded Nov 11, 2023Thank you for your support to the Socialization Through Play project for my Intermediate Autism impairment classroom. Several times throughout the week my students breakoff into teacher and student lead groups to play interactive games. They decide what games to play and pick groups. Together we sit and encourage conversation and interaction.
Typically most students with Autism don't engage with one another and remain very much in a world of their own, but when we take this time to play together they appear to really enjoy the supported engagement. Some student laugh and want repeated attempts to play the assorted children cards games and Connect Four among other items that your donations delivered for our classroom.”

Funded Oct 12, 2021Our class uses the PECS Communication Books and Schedule Boards daily. The students enter the classroom and they attended to their individualized schedules. Each student has his or her own schedule that informs them of what is happening at school and in class today. The students have been taught to check their schedule and complete the activities that are presented. These tools support students completing their individualized daily routine. The schedule aid the students in understanding what are the expectation of the day. They inform students of what is happening from the beginning of the day throughout the end of the day. Each picture icon represents a different activity of the day. The visual depict what happen first, second and so on. Once the student remove the picture icon they know that they have complete the assignment. My students also use their communication books daily as a form of communication because of their limited communication skills. These picture books allow for them to choose from picture icon and express their wants and needs. Your contribution to our class has allow for each student to have their own individualized communications books. The students where excited to learn the process of using the materials and having a clear layout of what their daily expectations of their school day. They students are excited to see that they have completed their schedule and removing the icons to the finish container. The next steps are to continue incorporating the daily class schedules and the communication books to the point where the students are completely independent. The students will be supported to utilize the tools to communicate wants and needs daily as well as understand what is coming next in their school day. The student enjoy having their own communication books that are setup specifically for each student needs. Thank you.”
