  • Christmas Cheer

    Funded Dec 3, 2024

I love gifting my students a present each year around the holidays. I love to be able to share something I love. I was so excited to give each student a cute book and the stuffy to snuggle each night at home.

I love reading and love encouraging students to find a love for reading. It is my one of my favorite things to share this with them! My students were so excited when I gave them their book before Christmas break. They couldn't believe how cute the Yeti was and were so excited they each got one.

Thank you so much for making my students dreams come true and thank you for helping me with my dreams to help my students!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. McNeel

  • Learning From Other Cultures

    Funded Dec 4, 2024

This is my most favorite lesson to teach each year! I love to spend the week before Christmas immersing my students in a variety of other cultures. We read stories and do different crafts to represent the different countries.

I love being able to have extra crafts and treats for the students to try to enhance their understanding of the new cultures. You made it possible for me to do this for my students.

When we learned about Christmas in Italy and I cut open the pantonette bread, my students were so excited to try it! Except, many of them thought it was no good :) We spent the next few minutes discussing why they didn't like it and what madd it different than our traditional Christmas treats.

Thank you for making this awesome opportunity possible for my students!”

  • Refill the Snack Cart

    Funded Jan 29, 2025

Kids get hungry! Especially growing third grade students who work hard each day! And that's who my students are. They show up each day ready to learn! We spend our day mastering our multiplication facts and cursive handwriting. These students also are on a four day week and our days are long!

A snack is a must during each afternoon. This allows the students to refuel their energy and ready for the next part of the learning day.

This would be so difficult without these much needed snacks. Thank you so much for supporting my classroom and allowing my kids the fuel they need to learn!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. McNeel

  • Epic Dance Parties

    Funded Dec 20, 2024

Being in a teacher in this day in age has benefits and some downfalls. These students are as Ron Clark says, "Tik tok kids". They are seeking constant stimulation and are often bored and fail to focus when they sit and work each day.

It has been such an exciting addition to have a speaker for our classroom! I have implemented a reward where students can earn dance parties! And not just any dance party. We pause our work, turn off the lights, click on the lights, turn on the speaker and dance our hearts out for 1-2 minutes.

It gets the kids moving, our hearts pumping, and gets us excited to learn! I am so proud of my students and how hard they work and how hard they work towards a reward like this one!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. McNeel

  • Earning Our Rewards

    Funded Oct 7, 2024

It can be tricky each year to keep a class motivated to learn. I have sifted through multiple different ideas and strategies. The one that I have settled on is allowing students to earn prizes for their hard work. Each year I set up a system for students to earn points or money for their hard work. Then the students get to cash in and receive toys, treats, extra IPAD time, etc. It has been a success!

My students work hard to earn rewards. I love seeing them as they push themselves a little more to do better in reading, or math. It is such an awesome thing to watch.

Thank you for filling my shelves and making it possible for my students to work hard for rewards!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. McNeel

  • Where Will Molly Go Next?

    Funded Oct 3, 2024

I love to give my students a variety of genres to read. I love to give them opportunities to learn from and enjoy stories. One of my favorite traditions in my third grade class is to have a monthly book club. Each month, I give them a new book, we read it together in class and have an activity surrounding either the theme of the book.

I discovered this series written by a local author. It has become a class favorite each year. We have already read the first book and were able to meet the author. The students were so excited about this fantasy series, and I knew I had to get the next book for them. The students were so excited when we received this second book. They are so excited to read about Molly's next adventure.

Thank you so much for making my next month's book club come true!”

  • Beginning of a Series

    Funded Sep 14, 2024

I teach third graders and I want nothing more than for my students to find joy in reading. I want to expose them to different texts in order to help them find what they love. Each month I hold a book club where the students get to receive a new book. We read the book together, do an activity and discuss the book together.

One of my favorite books to read is "Into the lighthouse." It is a short chapter book written by a local author. The students love to read about Molly and how she travels magically to a new place. My students were very excited this year to receive this book, read it, and then find out they were going to get to meet the author!

Meeting the author was a highlight in all of their third grad experience. I have made it a point to try and get the next 2-3 books in order to help them continue their love for reading and for them to follow through with Molly's story!

Thank you so much for making the beginning of this journey come true for them!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. McNeel

  • Unlocking the Code

    Funded Aug 27, 2024

I have been teaching for almost ten years and I have taught a few different grades. Over the years I have seen a wide range of students reading abilities. I have been educating myself on the science of reading and searching for tools to help my students understand the phonics rules and patterns. I have been worried about so many of my students gaps in reading. One of the resources I have come across is "Secret Stories".

This resource is fun, interactive and students remember the stories that go along with the rules for phonics! As we study a phonics rule each week, the students can transfer it to our math lessons, their own reading and so much more! I have students who will often tell me "That's the mommy e!" when reading a story or when we are reviewing spelling words.

I truly believe Secret Stories has unlocked the possibility for students to be able to thrive in reading! Thank you so much for making this possible for my class!”

  • Fuel Our Learning

    Funded Jun 18, 2024

Thank you so much for supporting my classroom! In elementary school, the students get hungry. It is difficult for them to push through those hard moments to learn. I love being able to have a snack cart with snacks on hand for my students.

These much need essentials filled the cart and more! We were able to start off the year right with a full snack cart and students full tummys. Each afternoon the students are able to choose a snack from the cart and take a small ten minute break to visit and enjoy their snack. I think it is a great time for the students to refuel for the remainder of the day.

I am so lucky to teach our young students! I feel lucky to spend my days with them and teach them and watch them grow. I truly feel blessed to have such generous people lie yourself to continue to support my classroom. Thank you!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. McNeel

We're getting excited to finally go back to school! In planning our comeback, I've decided each student needs their own pencil box, box of crayons and water bottle to stay clean and safe. We'll also be able to read about recycling and sanitize and reuse water bottles and pencil boxes. We'll be using the pencil boxes on top of each students desk to hold their own belongings. I'm so excited to be back in the classroom and helping my students learn, despite the uncertainties during coronavirus. We are ready for it!
