  • Soaring Scholars

    Funded Aug 22, 2023

The students are really enjoying the new resources. I use the large post it notes as anchor charts. I can laminate them and use them for many more years to come. The gift that keeps on giving. Thanks to Donors Choose our classroom library is starting to grow. Students have more options other than their cell phones when they are done working. It melts my heart to see students who didn't enjoy reading now have access to a diverse collection or reading material. Our favorite has been the personalized dry erase boards. We have vocabulary wars where students are divided in teams and write down the words to match the definition that I read aloud. This is a great way to prepare for quizzes. I can ramble on and on about how grateful we are. We are thank you so much!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Williams

  • Taking Flight With English

    Funded Feb 8, 2023

I am blown away by your generosity. Because of your kindness we are able to explore reading and learning. Because of your donations we have a fully supplied classroom which is rare. My students have everything they need to complete assignments. We truly enjoy all of the books and supplies. We are so grateful words cannot express. We are currently doing a novel study and I have witnessed students who were initially apprehensive dive into the plot and actually enjoy reading. As a teacher this field is underfunded and under appreciated so it feels good to bring my archived lesson plans to life. Again, Thank you so much!!!”

    With gratitude,

  • The Magic Carpet of States!

    Funded Dec 1, 2020

Words can not express my gratitude for your donation. I imagined that the carpet would be a great asset in my classroom but I had no idea how much of an impact it would have for my students. Teaching states and capitals can be hard to memorize but having a beautiful vivid carpet with pictures brought the states to life. I incorporate the map into my lessons, educational games and as a reward for students to enjoy. Students enjoy sitting and stretching out on the plush carpet. I've also noticed that having a a huge colorful map in the center of the classroom has helped students master the location of the states in proximity to other states on the map. My visual learners now have a magic carpet of states to learn from and enjoy. I cannot say thank you enough.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Williams

We start working towards our state research project from the first week of school. Each student is assigned a state and we learn to research and collect information. We start with abbreviations and capitals. We learn the year of statehood, region, state flower, state rock, tourist attractions, and important people. We learn the sections of a research paper, Introduction, body, and conclusion. We incorporate grammar and punctuation. Students are quizzed over the location of the states. This is their least favorite part of the unit. With a state rug, students will familiarize themselves daily of where each state sits. When we join together on the floor we can incorporate elements of the rug in games of memory. For example, “Tevin, sit on Maine..Chelsea, find North Dakota.” This repetition will make students more familiar and comfortable with states and their locations.
