Students learn best by doing and exploring concepts with hands-on manipulatives. I am requesting 120 charts, number lines, ten-frames, dice, Unifix cubes, and dry erase markers and erasers to give to each child while they learn at home during distance learning. They will use the materials requested to demonstrate necessary math skills in a fun, innovative way. For example, they may use the dice, ten-frames, 120 charts, or Unifix cubes to play math games or to practice basic addition and subtraction facts. They can also use the number lines, 120 charts, and ten-frames to develop their understanding of number sense. There is no limit to the mathematical skills that can be acquired when they are motivated to learn. The math resources I've requested will not only add much needed hands-on materials to each of my students; it will enable their natural curiosity of how and why things work. These resources will ensure that the students are developing math concepts and the ability to create meaning through hands-on activities. This will provide a HUGE boost to my students' math skills and most importantly to their self-confidence in their own abilities.
