Objects, names, and people all hold stories. Students will learn to write stories by first talking about them, then transforming their idea as a storyteller using instruments to empower their storytelling. The Storytelling Classroom and Children Tell Stories books will teach students to be motivating storytellers. Listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills are all enhanced with storytelling. Tuesday will be known as Storytelling Tuesday. Everybody has a story to tell. Storytelling is a strategy that can be used in all subject areas. Imagine creating a story map and using storytelling to describe the levels of a canopy in the rainforest or retelling Paul Revere's ride with a That's good, That's Bad (book by Cuyler) story. Adding soundscapes makes a story more engaging, and helps the teller become more involved with the story. Students will add sound with the drums, maracas, slide whistles, and other instruments at the beginning, middle, end, and other places to create a dynamic effect to their story. My goal is for children to love reading and writing and to feel comfortable speaking in front of an audience. They will become confident communicators and creative individuals who will be our future leaders.
