  • COVID Kindergarten

    Funded Nov 23, 2020

    The materials funded in this project will benefit students for years to come. This year we have been 100% virtual up until last month with just a small number of students attending in person daily. The books have been read, enjoyed, and analyzed and directly impact our writing and PBL units. The furniture has been saved and will be used in compliance with my schools and CDC guidelines. The students loved the idea of a "new" book ordered and donated to just our class and took it very serious. We have completed that project and on to our next one!”

  • Mrs.Porter's Kindergartners PBL #3

    These books served as our whole group lesson daily. Students enjoyed listening to the fiction and nonfiction books about each insect. We focused on the skill of compare/contrast often as well as main idea and key details. Students compared different insects and in the end chose 1 insect from our readings and research to do their final project on.

    In my classroom reading looks like the teacher modeling, and students reading on their level and working to increase their independent reading level. With COVID-we use educational research based apps to do so.

    All students were so engaged during this project, and are still talking about this project and the many books we read after completion!”

The books can be used at home and in person. The students who are learning online will be able to listen to live read-aloud of the stories to follow along with the in-class writing unit. The seating choices allows students a safe choice while social distancing, and the opportunity to leave their desk. The kick bands for the desks are for the times students need to stay in their desks (difficult for Kindergarten age students) and gives them a fidget device to foster their learning and SEL health. The manipulatives will be added to their individual manipulative box.
