Every Child Needs a Champion...Especially During Distance Learning.
Funded Jul 31, 2020It has been a long time since I have received your generous donations and gifts to help me better provide for my students during this continued period of distance learning. I wanted to share an update with you to provide you all a more in depth look at how you all helped me provide a safer, more interactive, and positive learning environment online. The iPad and Apple pencil that you have all contributed to have helped me also try out new programs and have helped me become a better educator as well.
I have been able to successfully use the iPad to help keep my students engaged by using different online programs such as Kahoot, Peardeck, and Nearpod. While I use my main computer/work computer as my way to connect with students and interact with them on Zoom, I use the iPad to interact with them on the different aforementioned programs and utilize the flexibility to monitor their responses, grade them, and provide feedback to them in real time. I have also been able to grade assignments through our learning management system (LMS) while students are working. I am also able to provide student direct feedback by being able to utilize all the Google applications while on the iPad as well.
Lastly, one of the more interesting things that I have done this year with technology is incentivize my students by offering to play the game, "Among Us." I utilize this as a fun way to get them to turn in their work and actively participate in online lessons. I have also expanded on using this game as a way to have students properly answer questions utilizing the "Claim-Evidence-Rationale" method to help them properly cite evidence and provide reasoning in their responses.
Overall, your donation has helped me be the best teacher and mentor I could be for students during this time. In surveying the students at multiple points of the semester so far, many have shared that they feel more than comfortable in my class and feel that the learning is worthwhile. A majority of students have also shared that they feel that my teaching is more genuine and that I am using technology as an asset and not as a way to substitute for their learning.
Without your help and generosity, I would not have been able to do this for any of my students. I sincerely thank you from the bottom of my heart for helping me keep my students interested and engaged in learning more about history and the world around them. Thank you so much, and I look forward to sharing more with you all in the near future!”
With gratitude,
Mr. Ramon Jacinto
