As time moves forward and we begin to meet as a teaching staff, we've learned that our middle school students will begin the school year virtually. We have completely revamped our supply list and are attempting to all reach out in any way we can to get our students the supplies they can't afford, yet need for success with this new learning platform. Given the state of our world, it has become clearer than ever that there is not true educational equity in our system. As educators, we must do what we can to change this for our students. That is why my middle school team members and I are reaching out to attempt to get educational bins for keeping students' school materials together in one spot at home, whiteboards for working out math problems and sharing answers via zoom, as well as 5 subject notebooks where all core content can be saved in one place. We were not ready for distance learning in March, but worked hard and had some success. We are now prepared, and truly need the support of donors to be sure our students are prepared as well. Please consider helping our kids. We can't let the educational gaps between these students and their suburban counterparts continue to increase. Our kids are bright, beautiful, amazing human beings, that deserve the same opportunities as every other child.
