Meeting the diverse needs of my classes (82 children) is important to building a truly student-centered, inquiry-based classroom that will prepare my students for future success. My students lack access to basic supplies such as pencils, glue, markers, notebooks, scissors, paper, and crayons. This problem has been exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic where members of the community have suffered terrible personal and financial losses. These supplies are fundamental tools of education and are necessary for hands-on, student driven learning. My goal is to ensure that each student acquires the knowledge, skills and core values necessary to obtain personal success. This will be achieved by developing meaningful connections with one another, creating a sense of purpose, promoting self-determination, and striving for excellence in academic achievement. An organized, creative, and flexible classroom environment is key to providing high-quality instruction. Differentiation and hands-on learning is critical for supporting English Language Learners. I will be utilizing various manipulatives (such as the Sight-word Bingo) and creation-based projects (with assistance from the anchor charts) to support all learning styles for whole and small group instruction. Students will be able to use classroom community supplies to express higher-order thinking and creativity. Classroom organizers such as the file holder, laminator, and cart will help students maintain their materials, create centers for data tracking, and create classroom independence. By supporting this project, you will be helping to ensure fair and equal education for this community.
