Students need to know that it is ok to talk about race in the classroom, and our goal is to help students develop the vocabulary and comfort necessary to talk about race in a constructive way. We also hope to make the classroom a safe place to talk about student's experiences of discrimination and to explore ways to challenge discrimination in their personal lives and communities. We will use these books for distance learning. Here's the plan: We will invite students and their families to a read-aloud of the books over Zoom/Google Meet. After a brief online discussion, families will be asked to complete an activity together regarding the book.
