After spending many hours of professional development learning de-escalation and self-regulation techniques, a sensory room will provide the perfect space. My project will supply the sensory room with multiple options for calming and resetting for students. A pulse rate can show you the various stages of alertness in a child. By using the pulse oximeters requested, I will be able to help identify my student's current emotional state in order to help them regulate their bodies. The light fixture covers will help to alleviate the harsh fluorescent lighting in the room creating a more calming space. The goal of the sensory room is for students to self-regulate, or regulate with guidance, and return to the classroom. Through rhythm and movement, students can use the sensory room to calm down in order to do so. Students can use sand or play-doh for tactile experience. Scarves and feathers can be used with rhythm or music. This sensory room will meet the unique needs of all of my students and provide an opportunity for learning.
