2nd Grade Wiggles Wobble
Funded Dec 2, 2020The 2nd Graders are wildly wiggling while staying in one place! Mission accomplished due to your generosity! With the restrictions this year limiting movement working out the wiggles in an uncomfortable chair has been hard on most 7 and 8 year old students. Although we have had the wiggle stools only a short time I have noticed that they are using the stool capabilities to the fullest and in the most interesting ways. Being allowed to use their muscle energy to stay balanced on the stool they are far less restless and can control the urge to move out of their space. This makes following the new guidelines so much easier for them. Their focus time has increased as well.
The students unpacked them guessing what they were the whole time like it was Christmas! They looked at the directions and then put them together in partners. They were so excited to try them out. It really looked a bit like a rodeo with all the wobbling and arms waving to balance. The wiggles wobbled but they did not fall down! It did not take long for them to find their favorite positions in the stools and not a single one has asked for the regular chair back. Success all around!
I couldn't be more pleased with the outcome of this project and the difference it has made in the working day of my students. They are working, working within the guidelines and working through some energy with the gift of your financial support to our classroom. The students are so grateful and wish to send their gratitude your way. I so appreciate your support and interest in our classroom.”

Funded Sep 16, 2020The impact of this funded project has exceeded my expectations 10 fold. My school is still meeting in person while following CDC guidelines which discourage the sharing of supplies and manipulatives. With the Math Manipulative Boxes you have funded the students have all of their manipulatives contained safely in one space for easy access with no sharing needed. I included consumable supplies as well that are typically shared. Some students have experienced quarantine and it has been a great thing to be able to just send the box home with their computer and not miss a step.
We took the funded supplies, printed tool kit anchor charts and templates then added some consumable things like paper, folders, glue sticks, markers and pencils. The students passed out the materials with squeals of delight like it was their birthday! They spent time reorganizing the container and exploring the tools and manipulatives to familiarize themselves with the contents. They have made the boxes their own although they will leave them behind when they move on to 3rd grade so that 2nd Graders of the future can use them as well.
The value of this project can be given some number value as well. When the student's entered 2nd grade this fall they took the MAPS Growth test in math. The scores were dismal as they had not really finished 1st grade with the lockdown. We tested again in December and the scores were amazing. Using the manipulatives the students were able to conceptualize the concepts and cement their understanding. The average growth was 19 points (with the expected norms to be 7). Everyone showed double digit growth across the board. The entire class made their goal as well. Yes we will be celebrating! Because you funded this project the students had the appropriate manipulatives they needed to make math real their scores soared.”
