The majority of them come from low income homes, with limited access to resources outside of the classroom. These students are ethnically diverse, and all of them have different life experiences that make them who they are. Providing them with some basic school supplies and binders, allows them access to tools that will allow them to create their own Personal Interactive Playbook, and give them a way to have some control over who they want to be in the future. The Playbook will give them a resource that can help them actively engage in mapping out their own success. It will be a tool they can use independently to learn and practice new preschool and kindergarten readiness skills, like matching, patterns, writing, letter sounds, colors, counting, rhyming, sight words, introduction to Spanish vocabulary and American Sign Language, and so much more (activities added by education staff that adhere to the curriculum ). They will add their artistic and academic successes, journal entries , family and classroom photos, and awards. It will be something they can share with others to express themselves, make connections, and take charge of their own independent learning.
