Technology in our school is funded through grants and donations. My classroom has 2 desktop computers and a laptop. Additionally, there is a disparity among my students in regards to those that have access to digital devices at home creating an equity gap. I currently have 22 students on my roster for the upcoming 2020-2021 school year. Students learn so much from engaging in productive struggle and problem solving together! The donated Chromebooks will ensure students are able to continue to learn through inquiry while making their learning visible for student/teacher response, and intervention when needed, so that they do not become islands in their learning as a result of social distancing. Additionally, the donated Chromebooks will close the equity gap as all will have access to tools that will enable collaborative and rigorous learning opportunities where students are constructing understanding together. We all want to ensure that student learning is not limited by budgets and access to technology. Unfortunately, this will happen as instructional strategies will be limited to whole group, teacher-directed instruction as a result of social distancing requirements. The donated Chromebooks will allow consistent access to tools that will keep students on a trajectory to College and Career Readiness.
