I am particularly impassioned to advocate on behalf of my students--our future. We must adapt, learn, and grow during this difficult time in our world. I am requesting a Chromebook laptop each of my 25 students. These Chromebooks will support their academic and personal growth as well as provide opportunities for my students to communicate and collaborate in cooperative learning groups while social distancing.
My students should not be held back in their personal learning growth because they are socially distanced three feet apart, unable to work together as partners or even in small groups effectively in a broad manner during this time in our world. Our school does not have one-to-one technology and this gift of laptops would afford my students the ability to apply blended learning including self-paced, high-interest explorations and to continue strong communication and collaboration together.
I am advocating for the opportunity for my students to continue to excel in their academic pursuits, their collaborations, and their perseverance in problem solving through the use of technology in addition to hands-on experiences.
Using these laptops, my students will be able to work together on one project adding their ideas and thinking, learning of other's ideas, and using cooperation to complete their assignment. Using technology, my students will be able to complete self-paced, high-interest explorations that will meet and exceed their own goals they have set for themselves. They will know where they stand academically and will use their motivation to move in their learning through their technological pursuits.
Imagine previewing a lesson at home the evening before as homework, then the next day completing an assignment in class related to that learning AND adding your own creativity and ingenuity to make that assignment beyond the lesson--at the pace that meets your learning needs. Imagine in a time of closed library or books that must sit for days before they may be read after another has read them, to having an online library complete with comprehension testing! That is what technology will mean to ALL our class!
