In my district, we have been out of school for distance learning since March 15, 2020. From March - June, I worked to provide my students with engaging experiences in math by recording my own lessons, holding live virtual classes, offering individual support times, etc. One of the biggest challenges in helping students to be successful was the lack of appropriate materials to record and share their work with me and their classmates.
Please help me give my students learning materials to find success in math due to the COVID-19 pandemic. At this time, we do not know if we will be able to return to school in person this fall. While we are hoping to have at least some of our student population attend in person, we already know that many of our students will continue to learn from home for a variety of reasons. It is also highly likely that even if we are able to start the year in school, we will again move to virtual learning for all.
It is incredibly important to me that my students have all of the necessary materials to be successful whether they are working from home or physically in the classroom. For example, having whiteboards (plain on one side, coordinate grid on the other side) will allow students to clearly record their work and share out with everyone whether in person or through a Zoom session.
In addition, if we are in school, students will no longer be able to share materials. This will pose a huge issue in math, since I teach over 100 students and do not have supplies to give to each individual in my classes. I feel that this project will help to provide access and equity to all.
