My project involves collaborating with my colleagues to provide a cozy, comfortable space that enables Head Start students to use their senses while actively engaging in the learning process. The goal is for children to see, hear, smell, taste, and feel what is happening in the garden. This outdoor sensory garden will benefit the children in the following ways. The green space will improve education outcomes by giving teachers the opportunity to provide engaging experiences where children are learning across all the early childhood developmental domains. It will provide a living connection to the existing curriculum. The garden will have social and emotional benefits for children. Many of our young students are experiencing trauma. The green space will provide a peaceful respite for children to relax and calm their minds. It will give them the opportunity to work together as a team – practicing social skills and language skills. The project will encourage family and community engagement as families and community members will be invited to participate in the gardening project. For children to explore learning with their senses and have a calming environment for their social development, please consider supporting our children in getting garden furniture, such as benches, mats, chairs, etc.
