I have selected children's books that include BIPOC characters, as well as books that highlight experiences of people of color every day, and in our country's history. By increasing the number of books in my classroom that include BIPOC, my students will be able to see themselves in literature, relate to BIPOC through shared experiences, and learn about our country’s history. I plan on using these books as read alouds, and in small groups and independent reading time, so that students can have both structured and unstructured opportunities to process the vital messages that these books hold. Not only will these books be used this year, but will be cherished in our school community for many years to come.
