Bringing the Classroom Library Home

Funded Aug 11, 2020

As many of you know, teaching looks very different right now. My school district has not gone back to in person learning so I have had to revamp how I was going to use these wonderful books. Every day we read aloud a book to our class pet, Sky. The kids named her and the only thing we have to do to take care of her is to read to her. I have students choose the book that they want me to read through each day. I pick 3 books from the books that were donated and they either use a reaction on Zoom or use their hand or thumbs up to vote. This has aligned nicely with our citizenship unit in social studies and my students can practice sharing their opinion and voting every day.

Thank you so much for your contribution. My children really relate to the stories as they see themselves in the characters in the book. I have two English Language Learners this year as well and the books with children of Asian and Spanish descent have resonated with them and they were able to help me out to pronounce words. Thank you again. All this change with virtual learning is worth it when I see my children get cuddled up with a blanket and listen to a book.”

With gratitude,

Ms. Sparks
