Every child has a story to tell. However some young students approach writing with apprehension and even dread. They know they have something to say, but lack confidence and practice using THE TOOLS that help them say it. My GOAL is for each student's writing confidence and skill to be strengthened by putting essential writing tools in their hands. The"Correct the Sentence" daily grammar with sentence structure reinforcement journals lay a foundation. Then quality instruction in all three first grade genres, (opinion, narrative, & information),strengthens their writing, scaffolds their details on topic, and prepares it to be "published" into their OWN individual primary JOURNAL where they are the author! NOW, as "authors", they sit in the author's chair, proudly reading aloud from their journal with expression and ownership. NOW, as "authors", their writing ALSO becomes accessible for others to read and celebrate through our classroom "Journal Library". NOW, as " authors", they're EAGER to write and tell the story they want to tell!
