  • Writer's Corner and Reader's Delight

    Funded Feb 3, 2023

I would like to express my deepest gratitude for your generous donation to my classroom project at PSIS 116. My students and I are grateful for the print cartridges that you provided for our Brother Wireless Color All-In-One Laser printer, as well as the class set of headphones, laminator, and sticky back easel pads for charting lessons. My students were amazed and surprised to receive such useful and valuable supplies!

Your kind donation has made a significant impact on our classroom. The cost of purchasing toner for the Brother printer is quite high, and I had to spend a total of $149 for color and black toner. As a single person, it is difficult to maintain such expenses, but your contribution has given me hope and enabled me to plan for the copier's upkeep. The class set of headphones is a fantastic addition to our classroom, and I have numbered each one for easy check-out and return. The laminator is also being used to protect our word wall from damage as students pass by.

I truly appreciate your support and generosity in providing materials that my students will utilize on a daily basis. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Johnson

  • A Printer for Our Writer's Workshop

    Funded Aug 13, 2020

Thank you for your generous donation of a printer to our Writer's Workshop!

Students are able to access the printer to print reports, essays, and project-based assignments. They publish and display their writing for other writers and all students to enjoy. In addition, a student's published work gives the student a sense of pride and accomplishment. I am grateful to you for your donation! Students are appreciative of your generosity through the responsible handling and care they show each day when using the printer. Thank you.”

  • Reading Takes You to Places Without Moving Your Feet

    Funded Aug 13, 2020

Thank you for your generous donation! My students thoroughly enjoyed reading Refugee by Alan Gratz and Ghost Boys by Jewell Parker Rhodes. My students and I read these novels in remote learning at the height of the COVID 19 pandemic.

This was a wonderful learning experience for my students. We had discussions around the narrative structure - the building of a good story, and the plot of the story. We examined characters and students made connections that were text to another text, text-to-self, and text-to-the world. We shared our perspectives and speculated on the characters' perspective and reasoning.

Thank you for provided the materials that made the learning experience for students purposeful, enjoyable, and successful!”

    With gratitude,

Every year my students and I read novels and non-fiction books together. We have discussions around the narrative structure and plot of a story: exposition, rising actions, climax, falling actions. We examine characters and make connections, and we share our perspectives and speculate on the characters' point of view. I would like to continue this form of teaching and student learning during the 2020-2021 school year of blended learning (remote and traditional school setting). My students do not have their own books. I would love to give each of my students a copy of Ghost Boys by Jewell Parker Rhodes. My plan is to use this text to start the instruction on The Narrative Structure. Students will read along during our Zoom meetings, at home for independent reading, and have discussions in a small class setting. My students will love to have their own book to read. I also hope this will encourage them to want to read more.
