Young learners use manipulatives for learning. Many lessons that I teach in Math need manipulatives. In my classroom we have a nice supply of manipulatives. Depending on the lesson, students have the materials they need. If there aren't enough materials, then my lesson is altered so everyone has the correct amount of materials.
This year is different and I have to plan it unlike any other year. I might have enough supplies for some lessons I teach, but I know I won't have enough for every lesson. In addition, my students will not have the opportunity to share their materials with their peers, as we've always done in the past. Simply, we need more!
