Have you ever tried to tell someone something and they didn't understand your language? You feel defeated! My students feel this way every day. Having access to a translation device is so important for the ELL student. The phrase I hear the most in my classroom is, " Teacher telephono." The students have to rely on the teacher's telephone to communicate. What becomes a problem is the fact that the student must rely on the teacher to communicate. Some students are scared or to shy to ask the teacher for her phone. By having a portable translation device available, students can avoid these problems. They can take charge of their own learning and have a voice! They will be able to have a translation device with them during class discussions and lessons. They will be able to interact in their first language and show their knowledge independently. When my students are understood, I can see the positive effects on their learning and demeanor. By donating to our project, you are giving my students the ability to communicate and show everyone how engaged they are in learning.
