  • Books My Students Want to Read

    Funded Dec 26, 2024

It certainly is the season of giving, and I am so very grateful for the generosity of my donors.

As repeatedly reported on the news, reading scores are lower than ever. I have tried to counter those statistics by giving my students books they have picked out to read. They will be so excited unpacking the boxes and putting the new books on the classroom shelves.

Happy New Year and thank you again!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Ashley

  • My Students Need Basic Technology to See Our Class Lessons

    Funded Dec 26, 2024

Even in the season of giving, I am overwhelmed by the absolute generosity of the donors who have funded my project for the technology needed in my classroom.

Technology is essential in teaching, yet there are some teachers, like myself, who are in need of basics such as monitors, speakers and cables that is beyond our ability to provide on our own.

Again, thank you so much for your donation and please know that it will elevate the lessons I will now be able to provide in my classroom.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Ashley

  • Books They Have Been Asking For

    Funded Apr 19, 2024

These days it is so difficult for teachers to compete with social media and online content. I love to engage students to read books that they can hold in their hands and turn the pages while reading.

Whenever possible, I ask students to help me pick out their own learning materials.

Your donation provided my students with the books they have been asking for. The impact of having reading materials that students are interested in is invaluable.

Please know that the your donation has made a huge impact on my students.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Ashley

  • Books from NBA Stars get Students Reading

    Funded Jun 6, 2024

Thank you so much for your generous donation to my reading project. This project will touch the lives of so many students with the hope of instilling the love of reading in them.

People, and organizations, that take the time to find projects like mine are appreciated more than words can truly express.”

  • A Book Students Are Asking to Read

    Funded Oct 26, 2023

Thank you so much for making this novel project possible. Every day on the news we hear about students not being able to read. Being able to put a book in their hands that they want to read is truly fantastic.

Thank you for selecting my project and encouraging the love of reading.”

    With gratitude,

  • My Students Want to Learn Life Skills!

    Funded Feb 4, 2022

I would first like to thank all of my donors for putting books in the hands of my student readers. Without your generous contribution it would be unlikely, if not impossible, to have a classroom library, a novel study book, or a book on life skills.

Many of my students are unfamiliar with basic life skills like what it means to have a budget, open a savings account, or what a utility bill is. It is a rarity to find a student who even knows how to address an envelope and put a stamp on, and what to do with it after that. Just a many students don't know how to shop for a basic meal or make their own breakfast.

What I like to do is give my students the opportunity to choose the books they would like to read. By giving them a choice in selecting their own reading materials, they are exited to open those boxes of books when they arrive and begin reading.

These days it is very difficult to get students to put down their technology and pick up a book. Reading is essential to their success in life on so many levels.

Thank you once again taking the time out to find a classroom project and donate. It truly means a lot.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Ashley

  • Giving My Students the Joy of Poetry!

    Funded Feb 11, 2022

I would first like to thank all of my donors for putting books in the hands of my student readers. Without your generous contribution it would be unlikely, if not impossible, to have a classroom library, a novel study book, or a book of poetry such as Amanda Gorman's, "The Hill We Climb."

Being exposed to poetry opens up a whole new world of reading for students.

Thank you once again for taking the time out to find a classroom project and donate. It truly means a lot.”

  • Wanted: Poetry That Makes Me Laugh

    Funded Aug 3, 2023

Thank you so much for your generous donation to my poetry project. Reading poetry makes students laugh, experience emotions, and helps them understand that they are not the only ones to feel that way. Most of all, I want my students to have the opportunity to go to the classroom bookshelf and choose a poetry book that will make them laugh.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Ashley

Middle school students bury their noses in social media, not in books. Although the classics will always hold their place in literature, books that reflect the ways young readers look, feel and sound have a better chance of engaging my students. My students do not like to read aloud because of their lack of prosody. In reading, prosody refers to the expressiveness, intonation, rhythm, and emphasis given to words and sentences when reading out loud. Prosody is a key component in reading fluency. The best way to increase prosody, vocabulary, and comprehension is to put books in hand that students want to read. There are a wealth of Young Adult (YA) books by authors of color that are written with topics and issues my students are interested in. Having a class set of Mexican WhiteBoy by Matt de la Peña, would be a welcomed addition to my classroom bookshelf. --Thank you.
