I would like to give my students exposure to literature that shows diversity in characters, teaches them about history and important life lessons like acceptance and kindness and have real conversations about how our differences give us a chance to learn about culture and learn from one another. My students LOVE to read and the opportunity to fill my library with relevant and interesting books will ensure this passion continues. These books, almost always, can be used to teach standards based concepts, while still giving them social tools they will use even as adults. Due to the times, teachers have to turn to online learning in some capacity. However, these resources, oftentimes, come with a price tag. By receiving funding for Teachers Pay Teachers and other materials, I will be able to give my students the materials they need to learn from home and to learn with a device in the classroom, while still social distancing. The past few months have not only been difficult and daunting for adults, but children have also felt the brunt of quarantine and the abrupt closures of schools and extracurricular activities. In turn, it is important that I focus on their social emotional learning. By receiving funds, I will be able to purchase materials that match books and buy materials for lessons so I can help heal the emotional damage that has occurred the past few months.
