  • Shaping Our Commitment to the Environment With Clay

    Funded May 6, 2024

The launch of our ceramics program has been a transformative experience for our middle and high school students in the afterschool art club. Though there were some initial delays in starting the program, we recently began hands-on practice with the new materials. Students eagerly learned foundational techniques such as scoring, slipping, and blending to join clay forms. Their first projects included creating simple characters and animal sculptures. These materials have sparked new enthusiasm and have provided an opportunity to slow down, focus, and engage deeply with both their creativity and the natural world.

Our next steps involve building on these foundational skills by creating more intricate projects. Students are currently brainstorming and sketching designs for ceramic pieces in which they will choose a subject found in nature and then study or depict the impacts of climate change on a specific plant or animal that is the focus of their project. These projects will not only deepen their artistic abilities but also connect their work to meaningful environmental themes. The program has already fostered a sense of community, with students helping one another master new techniques and sharing ideas. Thanks to the generous support of our donors, we're well on our way to creating a program that nurtures creativity, environmental awareness, and a passion for art that will last a lifetime.

Thank you for your generous contributions!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Parkman

  • Snacks for Art Club & Leadership in the Arts

    Funded Dec 30, 2023

The art club students have been so grateful for the snacks that this donation has provided. We meet weekly on Thursdays and they are usually a little tired and always hungry for a snack by 3pm. Without this donation, students don't have enough energy or focus to do their best creative work. You can feel the lift that it gives them during our meetings. Their collaborations, conversations and explorations of materials become more animated once the snacks are introduced. They love to eat!

So far this year we have worked on Alebrijes-inspired paper mache sculptures, watercolor paintings, linocut prints, foam prints, monoprints, paper mache masks and many drawing projects. We also organized and launched an art show and several different art displays throughout our school. And we are not done yet!

One of our next projects will be to put together a display of artwork for the art club and possibly a pop up store of art prints to raise more money for the art club going forward.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Parkman

Wow, I'm completely blown away by your generosity and commitment to young artists! Thank you so much for believing in this project and supporting my students. Your contributions will put artistic tools into the hands of my students so they can be creative all year long (and beyond)! Thanks!”
