  • Making My Classroom Great for All Types of Learners!

    Funded Nov 30, 2022

Thank you so much for your generous support of classroom and the students who learn here!

Covid, particularly the shut down and the learning from home we all had to do, has had an impact on my students. They were just five and six years old in kindergarten and on March 13th, 2020, they unexpectedly sent home and didn't reenter a classroom for almost a full calendar year. They had barely begun to learn the skills needed to exist in a classroom setting, when it all went away. This changed their learning style. They were not accustomed to sitting at a desk for hours, without the freedom of breaks and frequent movement. In order to best serve them, my style had to change too.

Having the ability to move and work in a flexible spaces is vital for them. This beautiful classroom rug that you all provided for us, allows them to learn in the way they now need to. They are able to move their bodies freely and safely. And it contributes greatly to a home like learning environment. Thank you so much for this beautiful gift!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Duncan

  • Diverse Books, Because Representation Matters!

    Funded Sep 16, 2020

Thank you so much for supporting my first ever Donors Choose project. We were able to improve my classroom library, which now includes multiple stories of unique characters. All of my students are now able to see themselves represented in our classroom books.

Hopefully the true impact of this will be seen on February 1st, when students come back into the classroom. It will surely be a time of anxiety and excitement. These books will help them feel like they belong in this classroom.

It has been a very strange year. Thank you for supporting me, and my work. Your support makes all the difference.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Duncan

Seeing yourself represented in books, movies and TV is so important to the development of a child. It allows them to see they have a place in the world, that they are valued and that they matter. I want all of my students to feel they belong, and one way I can do that is to make sure they see themselves in the books I have available for them in our class library. I am creating a diverse library for my students, so no matter what they look like, where they are from, or disabilities they have, they will be able to see themselves represented in the hero's of our class library.
