As we move forward to the 2020-21 school year, we are faced with many changes. Our school is the “best kept secret” in Washington County, VA. Students are accustomed to working in small groups, helping each other through cooperative learning experiences and modeling new ways of thinking about math through daily number talks. This new school year is filled with challenges as virtual learning will become part of our normal routine. How can our fourth graders continue to learn together while being separated? Part of that challenge is making sure students have kits of needed materials for use at home and individual kits to use at school. We hope to keep students motivated by providing opportunities for students to meet in small groups through Zoom meetings and Google Meets. However, each student will need supplies to be sure they can engage in the learning process and continue to reach the same level of rigor normally provided in the classroom. We hope to place books, art supplies, hands on math manipulatives and science materials in the hands of each of our precious students so their love of learning can continue at home as well as in the classroom.
