Culturally Relevant Books for Diverse Learners

Thank you so much for funding books that will enhance students cultural awareness. Having books at their reading level is so important. I hope to help them become more independent in their ability to not only become better readers but have books that are relevant to them and their lives. These books are the key. These students often go without, but in our classroom the world is open to them through reading and writing. I can't wait to share your generosity with them. I can picture the excitement on their faces. It warms my heart and makes me smile.”

This classroom project was brought to life by Kleenex Brand and one other donor.

With these new books, my students will be able to choose from a variety of diverse books that will allow them to read independently and make connections to their own life. Students will become better readers when they are exposed to texts that are relevant to them. My hope is that the books will continue to foster a community of life-longer learners no matter their social, economic, or academic background. I believe students will thrive when they have the necessary tools to not only be successful, but are relevant to them and their lives.
