"Good writing is supposed to evoke sensation in the reader - not the fact that it is raining, but the feeling of being rained upon." -- E. L. Doctorow
Words are POWERFUL. When written, words take on an entire new level of importance, as they can communicate the emotions, ideas, conflicts, and/or passions of individuals both past and present. As history has proven, written words can truly inspire and change the world. Would the American Revolution have occurred if it had not been for newspapers distributed throughout the colonies? Would President Franklin D. Roosevelt have gained the trust of the American people during the Great Depression and World War II if it had not been for the countless "Fireside Chat" speeches he composed? Thus, I aim to equip my students with the supplies necessary to become confident writers who value writing and find pleasure in placing their thoughts and ideas on paper.
Therefore, these supplies will help me adapt Writer's Workshop in a manner that individualizes the writing experience for every student, integrates modern technology, and fosters opportunities for creativity. Furthermore, I intend for the items on this wish list to create an organized system for writing in my classroom whether we're working on independent, shared, or modeled writing. Ultimately, I hope to inspire a generation of students who will proudly walk away from 4th Grade with a writing portfolio (the requested writing notebooks) and be able to say, "I AM a writer. I ENJOY writing. LOOK at what I did."
