My course, Spoken Word Poetry, will be running for the first time ever for the 2020-2021 school year. I would like to use Elizabeth Acevedo's The Poet X as a model text in class. Students need to see themselves represented in the literature to believe that what they have to say is of value. I believe this poetry novel would greatly benefit my students, and I want to elevate minority voices in my classroom. With this donation, I could put a novel in each student's hands to read from home.
