One of the only things better than teaching is learning how to be a more effective educator. An idea that has stuck with me is children learn better through more movement and play, than through traditional seated learning. In fact, play is learning, no matter the age group! As a first year teacher in a rural area, I am limited on resources for creating my dream learning space. With so much uncertainty in this upcoming year, I want to promise my students one thing- play and movement in our room. Allow me to explain the rational of each item on my list that may look a little random. The ball chairs and wobble stools are great for little bodies that cannot focus on seated work. The little bit of discrete movement they provide students can completely change work output and learning for the better. On my list you will also find doll house furniture and people. Dramatic (pretend) play is a creative outlet for children to process what they are seeing and experiencing in their own environment. Lastly, you will find a Lego set and magnetic building tiles. These building tools are great because they are open ended and easy to clean! The use fine motor skills, require planning and creative thinking, and can be used in endless ways. Thank you for reading and considering donating to my project! Ms. B
