Hello! Welcome to our class. Our students would benefit from this wonderful variety of sensory materials in order to help them regulate themselves and be ready to learn every day. This year our program has the luxury of spreading out into two classrooms instead of just one, which is going to allow us the flexibility to create a more specialized space for our learners with sensory needs. Our classroom team has decided to take this opportunity to create a large, sensory focused area in one of our rooms and we have been sketching and re-sketching our ideas of how to arrange the new items that we hope to have for our students! We want to tell you about a few of the ideas we are most excited about: Calming Corner Many of our students need a quiet space with few distractions to visit throughout the day in order to regulate their emotions and return to the "Green Zone" in order to be able to continue their school work. We are envisioning a corner with soft seating, a tent-like enclosure, weighted lap pillows, and calming visual activities. Multi-sensory Library Tactile books and book sets will make story time more accessible for our learners with visual impairments. The stories will come to life when our students have the opportunity to feel as well as well as hear the stories we read to them. All children should be able to fully experience a good book! Thank you so much for considering supporting this project. Our students will appreciate it!
