Our staff is trying to help prepare our students for the world that lies ahead. Because of their homelife, many of our students struggle with self regulation and coping skills. Our counseling department is in need of two iPads that students could use to access aps and learn coping skills. This in turn will help relieve their anxiety and regulate emotions. Students come to my office when they are experiencing self regulation deficiencies. They can "plug in" to relaxing music, review activities that practice coping skills, and/or watch videos that teach students how to understand their emotions, develop self-control, build empathy, and practice problem-solving. The activities that we do on the ipads allow them to calm themselves so that they can eventually return to their classrooms and continue to have a positive day. Social-emotional skills are the strategies one has for managing strong emotions, navigating relationships, working effectively with others, solving difficult problems, and making responsible decisions. Students learn to manage times of high stress, and during times of anger, keep from launching into destructive actions they may regret later.
