As a first year teacher, I want to be able to provide my students with a diverse classroom library. My goal is to read these books as a class and have these books on display each month. Reading is a fundamental concept to function in today's society. Letters, words, sentences, paragraphs, and texts are found across the world in various languages. Reading is essential to understand what is written on traffic signs, closed captions, emails, subjects in school and much more. As an educator, I will provide quality children's literature that incorporates influential and engaging content across various communities. Not only will I provide my students with valuable insights in human conditions, but also stories that reflect on students experiences. I hope to provide the concept of windows and mirrors to allow students to see themselves represented in the books we read, but also exposing them to other experiences in life as well. By providing diverse books in a variety of concepts, I will allow my students to discover new content, information, and perspectives, while also developing their imagination.
